PCSCC The History
PCSCC began as Barton Motors CC in 1965, playing in the now defunct Saturday Section of the Plymouth and District League, as well as the Leagues's Evening Section. Many of the matches were played on the varying angles of Plymouth's Central Park on pitches that were more likely to keep doctors occupied rather than scorers! Barton Motors opponents in those days included such sides as Botus Fleming, Tecalemit and C.M. Joiners.
In 1970, members of the Barton Motors got together with the late John Dennis who was then the secretary of the Civil Service Sports Association with a view to playing at Beacon Down. John encouraged and paved the way for the transfer, so Barton Motors became Plymouth Civil Service Cricket Club.
PCSCC continued to play in the Plymouth and District League, but it was becoming increasingly easy for them and a new challenge was needed. This was provided by the West Devon League, which had it's roots in club cricket and listed Plympton, Roborough and Launceston among it's members.
PCSCC continued to strengthen their side and became virtually unbeatable in both league and cup competitions. In 1978 PCSCC applied to join the newly formed "B" Division of the Devon Cricket League and after a stirring speech by the then Secretary Brian Johnson, were accepted. Secretary Johnson stated that Civil would not be happy with "B" Division Cricket and that it was "A" Division status we wanted - something PCSCC obtained when the League formed a Premier Division and each other division was moved up in alphabetical status.
PCSCC up until 1999 had never obtained promotion or relegation. This all changed in 1999 when the League had another reorganisation so that each league consisted of 10 clubs. PCSCC found themselves in the "B" Division by virtue of finishing in the bottom five of the "A" Division in 1998. Things went from bad to worse in 1999 when PCSCC were relegated to the "C" Division. However for the first time in their history they gained promotion in 2000 back to the"B" Division. Since then PCSCC were relegated in 2002 back to the "C" Division where they remained until the end of the 2005 season when promotion was gained back into the "B" Division.

The AGM will be at Deriiford Hospital Sports Centre on 18th January at 7.30pm. Please make every effort to attend Thanks
